Twitter X Video Downloader 2026: Save Tweet Videos, GIFs & Clips in HD Without a Watermark

X — the platform formerly known as Twitter — remains one of the fastest-moving feeds on the internet.
Breaking news clips, live match highlights, political moments, product launches, and viral
comedy all pass through the timeline every hour. Yet for all its reach, X provides no way
to save a video to your device. The “Bookmark” feature saves a link to the tweet,
not the video file itself. If the tweet is deleted — which happens more often than people
expect — the bookmark becomes an empty redirect.
NewTools.net changes that. Our Twitter X Video Downloader
works by identifying the original media file embedded in any public tweet and providing you
a direct download link — clean, fast, and in the highest available resolution.
No account needed. No app to install. No watermark on the file you receive.
Twitter officially became X in July 2023. Both old-format links (
twitter.com/...)and new-format links (
x.com/...) are fully supported by NewTools.Paste either format and the tool handles it automatically.
How to Download a Twitter or X Video — Step by Step
The process is designed to take under fifteen seconds from start to finish.
There are no registration forms, no email confirmations, and no countdown timers
asking you to wait before downloading.
Step 1 — Copy the Tweet LinkFind the tweet containing the video you want to save. Tap the Share icon and select “Copy Link”. The URL looks like
x.com/username/status/123456789Step 2 — Paste into NewToolsOpen NewTools.net in your browser and paste the tweet URL into the input field. The tool detects the media type automatically and fetches all available quality options from X’s servers.
Step 3 — Choose Quality & SaveSelect your preferred resolution — 360p, 720p, or 1080p — and click Download. The MP4 saves directly to your device with no watermark and no added compression.
One detail that makes X different from most other platforms: a single tweet video is often
stored on the server in multiple resolution variants simultaneously. Instead of forcing
you into one quality level, NewTools presents every available option so you can make
the choice based on your storage space or intended use.
Video Quality Options — Which Resolution Should You Choose?
Not all use cases need the same file size. A video you are saving as a quick reference
does not need to be the same size as one you plan to use in a video edit or presentation.
NewTools shows you every quality tier available for each tweet video.
Small file · Fast download
HD · Balanced size
Full HD · Best quality
When to use 360p: Archiving a large number of tweets for reference,
sharing quickly over messaging apps with file size limits, or downloading on a slow
mobile connection.
When to use 720p: General viewing on a phone or tablet, social media
re-sharing where the platform will re-compress anyway, or everyday storage without
eating into your device space.
When to use 1080p: Professional archival, inclusion in video edits,
analysis of visual detail in sports or news clips, or presentation on large screens.
This is always the recommended option when storage is not a concern — you can always
compress down later, but you cannot recover resolution lost at download.
The maximum quality available for any given video depends on what the original poster
uploaded. If a tweet video was recorded on a phone and uploaded in 720p, that will
be the highest tier we can offer. We cannot upscale beyond what X’s servers contain.
Download Twitter GIFs — The Right Way
GIFs on Twitter and X behave differently than they appear. Although they look and
loop like traditional GIFs, the platform actually converts all uploaded GIFs into
silent MP4 video files to reduce bandwidth usage. This creates a problem for most
download methods: right-clicking or using mobile share tools often grabs a static
thumbnail image — not the animated file.
NewTools identifies the .mp4 loop file that X uses to serve animated
GIF content and downloads it directly. The file you receive plays as a looping
video — exactly as it appeared in the tweet — on any device, in any media player,
without frame drops or quality loss.
True Animation PreservedThe downloaded MP4 loops seamlessly just as it did in the tweet — no frozen frames, no static thumbnail, no broken playback.
Far Smaller Than Real GIFsBecause X stores GIFs as MP4s, the files are typically 5–10× smaller than an equivalent animated GIF. High quality, minimal file size.
Ready to Re-shareMP4 loops are accepted on nearly every platform — iMessage, WhatsApp, Discord, Telegram, and more — without any conversion needed.
Thread Videos & Quote Tweet Downloads
Twitter threads — a chain of connected tweets from the same author — sometimes contain
videos across multiple posts in the sequence. Each individual tweet in a thread has
its own unique URL and must be downloaded separately. There is no bulk-thread download,
but the process for each tweet takes only a few seconds.
To find the link of a specific tweet within a thread, tap the timestamp
on that individual tweet. This opens the tweet as a standalone post with
its own URL. Copy that URL and paste it into NewTools as usual.
Quote Tweets are tweets that embed another tweet within them.
If the quoted tweet contains a video, the video lives on the original tweet’s URL —
not the quote tweet’s URL. In that case, tap through to the original tweet,
copy its link, and use that for the download.
On mobile, tap the timestamp (e.g., “3h” or “Mar 5”) on any tweet — even inside a thread —
to open it as a standalone page with a copyable URL. This works on both the X app
and the mobile web version.
Mobile Guide — iPhone (iOS) and Android
🤖 For Android Users
Android’s browser handles file downloads natively. The whole process runs inside
Chrome or Firefox with no extra steps.
- In the X app, tap the Share icon on the tweet and select “Copy Link to Tweet”.
- Open Chrome or Firefox on your device and go to NewTools.net.
- Paste the link and tap Download. Select your preferred quality (360p, 720p, or 1080p).
- The file saves directly to your Downloads folder. Open the Gallery app — the video will appear in a Downloads album at full quality.
🍎 For iPhone and iPad (iOS 13 and later)
Apple’s file system requires one additional step compared to Android,
but the overall process remains straightforward.
- In the X app, tap Share → Copy Link on the tweet you want to save.
- Open Safari — not the X in-app browser, and not Chrome on iOS. Safari is required for this to work correctly.
- Go to NewTools.net, paste the link, and tap Download. Choose your preferred resolution when prompted.
- A system dialog will appear asking to confirm the download — tap Download again to confirm.
- Tap the blue arrow icon in Safari’s URL bar to open your Downloads list. Tap the file, then tap the Share icon and select “Save Video”. It will appear in your Photos app immediately.
X Bookmark vs. Downloading to Your Device
Bookmarking on X is a useful organizational tool, but it is not the same as ownership.
Understanding the practical difference helps explain why a dedicated downloader matters —
especially for content that is time-sensitive or at risk of being removed.
| Feature | X / Twitter Bookmark | NewTools Download |
|---|---|---|
| Where it’s stored | Inside X’s servers — linked to your account | On your own device, permanently |
| If the tweet is deleted | The bookmark breaks and the video is lost | Your local copy is unaffected |
| If you lose your X account | All bookmarks are gone | Your files remain on your device |
| Video quality | Streams at whatever quality X chooses | You choose: 360p, 720p, or 1080p |
| Offline viewing | Requires an active internet connection | Fully available offline |
| Login required | Yes — must be logged into X | No login needed at any step |
| Works for GIFs | Links only — not a file download | Downloads the animated MP4 loop file |
Troubleshooting — Common Issues and How to Resolve Them
“Invalid URL” or “No Media Found”
This error means the pasted link does not point to a tweet containing a video or GIF,
or the URL format was not recognized. Check that:
- The link comes from a specific tweet, not a profile page or search result
- The tweet actually contains a video — text-only tweets or image-only tweets are not supported
- The URL begins with
x.comortwitter.comfollowed by/status/
“Content Not Available” or Private Account
X allows users to protect their accounts, making their tweets visible only to approved
followers. NewTools cannot access content from protected accounts — and we do not attempt to.
If the tweet URL opens in a browser without being logged in and shows the content,
it should work in our tool. If it requires a login to view, it will not.
Only Low-Resolution Options Appear
The quality options available depend entirely on what was uploaded.
If a video was recorded and posted in 480p, then 480p is the highest we can offer.
This is a limitation of the original file, not of our tool.
We always surface every quality tier that X has stored for that tweet.
On iPhone — File Plays in the Browser Instead of Saving
This happens when using Chrome or Firefox on iOS, which do not support
Safari’s native download manager. Switch to Safari and
repeat the process. Only Safari on iOS has the “Save Video” option in
its share sheet that moves the file into the Photos app correctly.
Downloaded File Has No Audio
GIF-format content on X is always silent by design — they are looping visual clips
with no audio track. For regular tweet videos that appear silent, check whether the
tweet itself has audio when played on X. If it is mute in the app, the downloaded
file will be too. We download exactly what X’s servers store.
The Download Link Expires or Fails Immediately
X occasionally rotates or expires direct media links quickly as an anti-hotlinking
measure. If a download fails within a few seconds of generating the link,
simply paste the tweet URL again and generate a fresh download link.
The new link will be valid for immediate use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Twitter X Video Downloader free to use?
There are no premium tiers, no watermarks in the free version, and no account
creation of any kind. Paste a link and download. That is the entire process.

What is the maximum resolution I can download?
360p, 720p, and 1080p Full HD. The highest tier depends on what the original
poster uploaded. We cannot upscale beyond what exists on X’s servers, but we
always make the best available option clearly accessible.
Can I download a GIF from a tweet?
that MP4 loop file, which preserves the full animation. The result is a
looping video file that plays on any device or media player — typically
much smaller in file size than an equivalent true GIF would be.
Does it work for videos inside a Twitter thread?
a specific tweet in a thread, tap the timestamp on that tweet to open it as
a standalone page, copy the URL, and paste it into NewTools.
The download works exactly the same as for any other tweet.
Do you store the videos I download?
a tweet URL, our tool fetches the direct media link from X’s CDN and passes
it to your browser as a download. Nothing is saved on our servers at any point.
Where does the downloaded file go on my PC?
in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, press Ctrl + J on Windows or Linux,
or Cmd + J on a Mac. This opens the download history panel
where you can find and open the file immediately.
Is it legal to download videos from Twitter or X?

else’s video, using it commercially, or distributing it without permission
may infringe on the creator’s copyright or X’s Terms of Service.
Always credit the original author when sharing, and seek explicit permission
before any commercial use of content you did not create.
